There was a buzz of excitement in one of our recent writing sessions when Year 3 students became 'Tea Tasting Apprentices' as the hook for our text Cloud Tea Monkeys by Mal Preet. The children discussed flavours and aromas as they swilled different varieties of teas around their mouths, just like professional tea tasters. Comments that could be heard included:

• "A riot of flavours!"
• "A top note of cinnamon!"
• "A burst of lime!"
• "A bouquet of hibiscus!"

It has been fascinating to find out how and where tea is grown and to learn about Fairtrade. The students have now used their newfound knowledge to write fantastic non-chronological reports all about tea.
